Windows Media

The following tasks can be performed with Windows media.

Importing

To create the universal base image, a path to the Windows operating system install media is required which can be a local path or removable media such as CDROM/DVD. The contents of the Windows media can be copied to the File Library or linked to the source path.

Note:

The following are steps to import Windows media into the File Library.

  1. Do one of the following:


    The Import Wizard opens.
  2. Click the Browse button and select the folder containing the contents of the Windows media.
  3. Uncheck the Copy source files to File Library if the source path is on your local machine.
  4. Click Next.
  5. At the import confirmation window click Yes to import the media.

    Note: If you receive the error message "Windows Media was unrecognised", verify the import path and retry the import.

  6. Click Finish to close the Import Wizard.

    Note: Before you can use Windows 10, 8.1, 8, Server 2016, Server 2012 R2, or Server 2012 imported media in an Imaging Toolkit project, you must create or import a catalog (.clg) file for each WIM image.

Creating a WIM Image Catalog

The following are steps to create a Windows 10, 8.1, 8, Server 2016, Server 2012 R2, or Server 2012 catalog (.clg) file.

Note: The table below shows which Build Console platform and Windows media image platform can be used to create a WIM image catalog. The Build Console version and platform can be displayed by running Build Console and selecting Help>About Build Console.

Build Console PlatformCan create catalogs for Windows 10, 8.1, 8, Server 2016, Server 2012 R2 and Server 2012 images of the following platform types
32-bit (x86)32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x64)
64-bit (x64)64-bit (x64)

To create a catalog for a 32-bit Windows image when running Build Console 64-bit, install Windows ADK for Windows 10 on a 32-bit Windows version, then do one of the following:


  1. Right-click the Windows media and select Catalog>Create.

    Note: If the Catalog menu is not shown then the selected Windows media already has a catalog file.
  2. At the confirmation window click Yes to create a catalog file.

    Note: The catalog creation process can take several minutes. Do not interrupt the process.
  3. Once the catalog has been created the selected Windows media will be displayed in the File Library as enabled.

Importing a WIM Image Catalog

The following are steps to import a Windows 10, 8.1, 8, Server 2016, Server 2012 R2, or Server 2012 catalog (.clg) file.

  1. Right-click the Windows media and select Catalog>Import.

    Note: If the Catalog menu is not shown then the selected Windows media already has a catalog file.
  2. Click the Import Windows Catalog Browse button and select a catalog (.clg) file to import then click OK.
  3. Once the catalog has been imported the selected Windows media will be displayed in the File Library as enabled.

Open Folder in Windows Explorer

The following are steps to open the source folder of previously imported Windows media.

  1. Right-click the Windows media and select Open Folder in Windows Explorer.

    Windows Explorer opens.

Deleting

The following are steps to delete previously imported Windows media from the File Library.

  1. Right-click the Windows media and select Delete.

    Note: If the media was imported with the Copy source files to File Library option enabled the copied media files will be deleted.
