Using Z-Remote, helpdesk technicians can search for user devices and establish a remote control session with only a few mouse clicks. Additionally, Z-Remote does not require the ZENworks Control Center (ZCC).

Z-Remote features include:

  • Search for ZCM users and devices
  • View logged in devices for a given user
  • Save search results as favourites
  • Remote control and view a ZCM Linux/Windows managed device

Imaging Toolkit 9 is coming soon! This is the second (and possibly last) in a short series of preview blogs.

Imaging Toolkit 9 adds support for Windows 8.1 and Server 2012 R2 for both the administration machine and deployment. Imaging Toolkit 9 will also support the "with Update" media for both of these operating systems, once imported the media will appear in the File Library:

Imaging Toolkit 9 requires Windows ADK (Assessment and Deployment Kit) 8.1. If you already have Imaging Toolkit 8.0 then you will have Windows ADK 8.0 installed, before you upgrade to Imaging Toolkit 9 you need to un-install ADK 8.0 and then install ADK 8.1, there's no upgrade process available unfortunately.

Windows 8.1 and Server 2012 R2 deployment is supported with:

  • ZENworks 11 Configuration Management SP3 with the Windows 8.1 update or FRU1
  • System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager

The majority of changes required to support Windows 8.1 and Server 2012 R2 are hidden "behind the scenes" so you won't notice any other changes within Build Console or during the deployment process. Windows 8.1 will deploy just like any other OS you have a project for, and in true ENGL style we want to make the process easy. Once the Windows 8.1 media has been imported into the File Library, take an existing Windows 7 SP1 project, save a new copy of that project and change the Windows Version to Windows 8.1. The project validation process will check that the correct Desktop Management Solution version is in place and warn you of any changes required to the project. Create your new Windows 8.1 base image and project images and you're ready to begin deployment.
