Automated driver packaging

Hardware import

Machine hardware details can be imported using SCCM inventory data or the Driver Manager Scanner (DMScanner) utility. Machines that have identical manufacturer and model information can be merged together to ensure hardware variations can be captured.

Driver discovery

Once a machine has been imported a request for the latest hardware drivers for a specified Windows version and platform (e.g. Windows 8.1 64-bit) is sent to the ENGL Driver Repository web service.

Driver download

A Driver Pack will have been created that contains driver download details matching the hardware inventory. Drivers can be downloaded by selecting the Driver Pack.

"Locating, downloading, analysing drivers to determine the best installation method, and then importing them into ConfigMgr is one of the most time consuming processes when creating a Windows build.

ENGL Driver Manager bridges the gap perfectly and handles all of these areas for you. Driver Manager is a truly innovative and time saving piece of software."

Driver analysis

The Integration Wizard displays a list of available Driver Packs. Selected drivers will be extracted and analysed to identify the most appropriate installation method to be used during deployment. Depending on the analysis and any user customisation, drivers will be integrated into SCCM and MDT.

SCCM and MDT integration

For SCCM, the driver store will be populated and driver/software packages created. For MDT, drivers will be added as either out-of-box drivers or application packages. Platform restrictions will be set based on the Windows version and platform selected for the Driver Pack.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How is Driver Manager licensed?
A. Driver Manager is licensed using a subscription model with either unrestricted or usage based driver searches. A license will last 12 months which gives you access to the Driver Manager console, driver searches and SCCM/MDT integration. At the end of the license term, a new 12 month license can be purchased with a driver search allowance. Unused driver searches will not be carried across with your new subscription.

Q. What is a driver search?
A. Driver Manager licenses can be purchased that give a driver search allowance that can be used during a 12-month period. Multiple driver search packs with 100 driver searches each can be purchased. Each time a search for drivers is performed for a given machine model, the driver search allowance will be decreased. For example, a search for both Windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit drivers for both a Dell Latitude E6530 and Lenovo T61p will use a total of 4 driver searches. If the same searches are repeated to check for later drivers, 4 additional driver searches will be used.

Q. Can the Driver Manager license be installed on multiple machines?
A. Driver Manager can be installed on multiple machines with the same license with in your organisation. Driver search usage is tracked using your license. Driver searches performed using the same license across different machines will decrease the total driver search allowance.

Q. Does the Driver Manager evaluation have limited functionality?
A. Evaluation licenses are limited to 2 weeks usage, importing machine model inventory is limited to a maximum of 2 machine models at any one time, and driver searches are limited to a maximum of 5 during the evaluation period. Once a full license has been purchased and installed, concurrent machine model imports will be unlimited and driver searches will be limited by the number of searches you purchased with your license.

Q. Are BETA drivers included in driver search results?
A. No, but pre-release BETA drivers can be manually imported into Driver Manager.

Q. How can driver issues be reported?
A. Driver Manager includes built in 'Report Issue' functionality that allows hardware inventory and driver search details to be sent to ENGL support for troubleshooting.

Q. How are drivers replicated if we have separate SCCM environments, i.e. test and production?
A. Driver Manager is designed to work in a single SCCM environment. Once drivers have been downloaded and integrated into SCCM, Driver Manager can be reconfigured with different SCCM connection settings and integration can be performed again.
